I am a water professional based in Pune. This is a busy Indian city in the western part of India. There are 2 rivers flowing through the heart of the city. Unfortunately in a sad state due to inadequate wastewater treatment and waste management.
The good news is that there have been efforts made by the local bodies and few key private agencies to clean up the city and protect water resources. For example an STP is compulsory for all new housing societies and complexes, waste segregation is mandatory.
Also there are hopes from grants such as the recent one from JICA that will be utilised to increase the wastewater treatment capacity of Pune as well as upgrade the existing systems. Recruitment and planning for this has already started.
