Problem of water quality arises in the production of vegetables in peri-urban areas, because of the scarcity of water in the dry season in developing countries in the intertropical area (example of Central African Republic)
Producers use wastewater from wells or small streams to water vegetables. While some vegetables are eaten raw. This practice is dangerous for consumers ‘health because some vegetables are eaten raw.
The best solution are:
- NGOs must educate vegetable growers on well maintenance
- Government provide boreholes to producers for watering vegetables.
